Perlitul este un material cu o buna capacitate de retinere a apei si cu insusiri ameliorative si de aerisire pentru sol si diferite substraturi de cultura.
Perlitul este o roca vulcanica care prin incalzire la 800 - 1000 grade Celsius este expandata.
Este neutru din punct de vedere chimic si este steril. Se poate folosi ca substrat pentru germinare cat si pentru culturile hidroponice.
Pentru germinare si inradacinare se foloseste 100% perlit
Pentru plante de gradina - dupa prelucrarea uzuala a solului, se aseaza un strat de perlit horticol, de grosime 4-5 cm, umezit in prealabil, in fiecare groapa de plantare
Pentru plantele cultivate in ghivece - se aseaza pe fundul vasului un strat de perlit horticol de grosime 3-4 cm, umezit in prealabil
